“ But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus…” (Ephesians 4:20)
If allowed for the truth to set in of Ephesians 4:20, there are at least two startling statements of the Word of God here: (1) There is a right way and a wrong way to learn Christ, which leads the way to question, as did Paul, the conversion of the converts at Ephesus, under the ministry of Joel Osteen, J. D. Greear, and Swaggart who now attract public attention in amassing numbers, no new thing as J. D. Powell asked in the Southern Baptist Convention over 20 years ago “Where are the Converts” and the report was made at the 2018 SBC that numbers of baptisms and churches are increasing but attendance is going down; (2) Paul, and the word of God through Paul leave the example and the way for us to question the quality of the converts in terms of how well they learned Chirst.
You see, then as in today, Christians were external influence more by their culture than they were internally influenced by the sanctifying influence of Learning Christ. The way to not learn Christ through culture is explained in the verses before 4:2.
“This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.” (Ephesians 4:17-19)
The majority Gentile culture that they were surrounded by at Ephesus of the Roman Empire was much like the American majority culture churches are sorrounded by and influenced by today, noted by walking (a life style) that is: (1) of futility of mind: (2) darkened understanding; (3) alienation from God; (4) ignorance caused by a blindness of the heart; (5) have seared their conscience beyond real spiritual feeling culminating in lewdness, uncleanness, and greediness. You don’t want a church full of those do you? Is it noticeable that the more democratic and humanistic any culture grows, it grows less moral demonstrating lewdness, uncleanness, the greediness of all pleasures.
The SunGrist Bible online library offers you this week a minimum of 1,371 free downloads, but the prime ministry to SunGrist is to present free to as much of the world as possible THE 7 VOLUMES OF THE LEARN CHRIST COMMENTARIES. (Some of them written and desktop published over 15 years ago faster than my chief editor could keep up with them, have some mistakes that you are being counted out to correct. During my 10 years of teaching electronics technology it was noticed that some of the best and most effective textbooks had many mistakes as the authors were too busy teaching to go back and make corrections. No excuses only facts, and that is being corrected with the highly edited two volumes already with public publishers, volume 7 on Amazon.com and volume 2 being distributed by Ingram Spark.
