“We Are Safe” from These Wonders Above and Beneath

The shock to church members as they see churches destroyed by these recent storm wonders in the heavens above and the earth beneath is similar to the reaction of most victims, “how could God do this to me”, or “how could God let this happen to us”.  Well the most fundamental message of the wonders is that it is God at work:  as He wrote in Joel 2:28-32 years ago in the Old Testament {our God is a rock of non-variability and purpose} and had the Apostle Peter quote and explain on the first day of Pentecost after the Ascension of Jesus, “I will shew wonders in the heavens above and signs in  the earth beneath; blood and fire and vapor of smoke…”  (Acts 2:19)  And furthermore God is trying to tell the churches during this Falling Away that they are not safe just like He told the people of the Jerusalem Temple through the Prophet Jeremiah.  Like in those days before the destruction of the Temple and the City for the wickedness of the people, God is trying to get the attention of church member and other Americans, that they have made their churches a “den of thieves”.  God is not indifferent and oblivious to how church members live “by bread alone” with little concern for Him and real applications of His Word and words to their lives, then come to church on Sunday for an hour forgetting how consumed their lives are with bread alone, effectively saying in their worship like the people of the Temple, “We are safe”.  We have security and comfort here in this formidable stone and brick building with all our friends and a pastor who has all the answers.  God is saying, “No, you are not safe, secure, and right!”  It does matter what you do with your life and time all during the week!  In our little sermonettes and devotionals—and never forget in this time of the Falling Away, it is the time of “heaping up” of Bible teachers—the whole world has become a Bible teacher with itching ears; but in those itching ears teachings we have mis-interpreted and mis-applied “den of thieves” to concentrate on the moneychangers in the temple, and except for some of the mega-churches where businesses have been set up in the church building, we do not have that problem in our temples of worship, nor did God’s people have that problem when Jeremiah preached his famous Temple Message.  You must straighten yourself out on the Bible by going back to read from Jeremiah the context of Jesus’ quote of how “you have made My Father’s house a den of thieves.”  It is no different from what we see in Westerns, the hole-in-the-wall gang goes out to rob villages and trains, then has a special hiding place where they retreat for security and comfort, hidden from those who would bring swift justice to them.  So it is with most church members today, evidenced by the fact that 61% of American Christians believe in the Gospel of Prosperity—a hideous perversion of the Gospel once for all delivered by the Apostle Paul—they go out during the week and rob God of any efforts at His Word and His kingdom, then run to the church on Sunday for an hour or security and comfort, thinking that what God sees is that one hour instead of the other 72 hours.

Cast your mental tents on Jeremiah.

“Has this house {the temple in Jerusalem}, which is called by My name, become a den of thieves in your eyes?  Behold, I, even I have seen it,: says the LORD.”  (Jeremiah 7:11)

Yes, God has seen what is happening in the churches and the nation, and God is trying to warn you.  “Do not trust in these lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD {sounds like some of the praise music today with a few words of vain repetition}, the temple of the LORD are these.”  (Jeremiah 7:4)

There is no safety and security in the house of God unless the people “amend their ways”.

“For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbor, if you do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the wisdom, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, or walk after other gods to your hurt…”

As you view ruins of a church building and of a city, or even the Twin Towers of New York, think of how you can completely and thoroughly “amend your ways”.  Surely this means you do not have any the answers; in fact, really do not have any good ones; and the wonders in the heavens above and earth beneath like the invariability of God Himself will keep coming, will increase in intensity and magnitude until just before the Great and Notable Day of the Lord there is such a large shaking of the heavens and the earth that the light of the sun, moon, and stars will be diminished.  (Acts 2:17-21)  Oh by the way, you, like those people of God in Jerusalem and the Temple, are not eternally nor presently safe and secure.  In this last great Falling Away where most of God’s people “depart from the living God {creating gods in their own mind, these “other gods” of Jeremiah} out of “an evil heart of unbelief” cultivated for over a period of 40 years of witnessing the works of God with a response of faith, even as happened to all of God’s people in the wilderness that were over 20 years of age, except approximately four, so the Bible teachers, especially II Thessalonians which we tend to ignore, that like Jesus said, “as sin abounds, the love of many {many is the majority}will wax cold.”
